Smokey Thai, the New Face of Thai Food 泰冒煙

Smokey Thai is the new restaurant founded by Smokey Joe's group. I saw the new face on Changrong Road, and thought that maybe I can give it a try. Smokey Joe's was originally a Mexican restaurant offering various delicacy, like classic Mexican dish, cocktails, and even Taiwanese food. Many decoration and the interior design are full of Mexican color and people can appreciate lots of cool and new stuff in there. They also
run a hotel at Kenting, and it's now named as Smokey Joe's Hotel.
泰冒煙是冒煙的喬集團旗下的新餐廳,看到台南長榮路上出現的新面孔一時興起也想嘗鮮一下。冒煙的喬原本是一家美式墨西哥餐廳,在店裡常看到一些非常有特色的墨西哥擺飾,菜單不僅提供經典的美墨料理甚至還有調酒、台菜等等,種類十分多樣化。除了餐飲業外,他們也跨足住宿業,在墾丁改建了一家旅店,現在名為冒煙的喬雅克旅店,十分受觀光客喜愛。

Stir-fried cabbage with Shrimp Paste 蝦醬高麗菜
The cabbage is fresh and full of the flavor of salty shrimp paste. Taste really nice with the fragrance of Thai Hom Mali Rice.
高麗菜很鮮甜,店家的蝦醬等用料相當大方,香氣撲鼻、十分下飯。

Sago Balls with Peanuts and Minced Meat 西谷米花生肉末QQ丸
The sago balls are very chewy, and they went well with the aroma of peanuts.
蠻有特色的一道開胃菜,西谷米丸很Q彈,顏色鮮豔在視覺上十分吸引人。

Cool Pork Mixed with Onions 泰北辣拌豬肉
The proportion of onions and pork is not balanced. The aroma of onions has overpowered other seasoning in this dish, I can only taste the spicy of onions. And I suggest to replace the mint leaves with basils so that it can go well with the flavor of this dish.
洋蔥跟豬肉的比例有些失調,洋蔥放的太多,感覺這道菜也沒什麼調味,單純就是洋蔥本身的辛辣感而已。上頭的薄荷葉建議也換成羅勒香氣會比較合。


Deep-fried Chicken with Spicy Sauce 泰式椒麻雞
For the chicken, fortunately, the sauce did not ruin the crispy outer skin, but the inside was not tender and juicy enough. For the sauce, it went very well with rice; yet, it's a shame that the Sichuan pepper was not enough to elevate the level of this dish. But I think for being one of the classic of Thai food, the cook still did an amazing job.
雖然雞肉淋上了醬汁但外皮還算是酥脆,肉質還能再軟嫩些。醬汁酸甜適合下飯,但以「麻」的部分來說,我覺得花椒的後勁不夠,並沒有幫忙提升整道菜餚的層次。不過椒麻雞是泰式料理的經典,以這家的表現來說我覺得是合格的,是大眾都能接受的口味。

Tom Yum with Mushroom 泰式苳茵功酸辣蕈菇湯
The simmering tom yum let out a delightful aroma of spices, like lemons, lemongrass, ginger, and chili pepper. But the price is a little bit high for the reason that the soup only contains mushrooms, and you have to pay more to upgrade to seafood.
檸檬、香茅、薑、辣椒等香辛料熬製而成的苳茵功香氣撲鼻,酸酸辣辣的很開胃。但是覺得可惜的是用料只有蕈菇還要另外加錢才能升級為海鮮湯,這樣的定價有點偏貴。

芋泥西米露 Taro Coconut Milk with Sago
Taro was really soft and creamy. And the sago was cooked well and very chewy.
芋泥很綿密,西米也蠻Q的。
羅望子汁 Tamarind Juice
咖央牛油燒麵包 Toast with Kaya and Butter
This was my first time tasting Kaya. I was really blown away by how perfect the crispy toast went with Kaya and salty melted butter.
這是我第一次吃到咖央醬,外酥內軟的吐司加上香甜的咖央醬跟稍微融化又鹹香的牛油真是絕配。
